This course in group solution-building skills offers opportunities for participants to increase their effectiveness in applying strength-based, solution-focused principles and strategies when working with clients and co-workers in a variety of group settings and situations. In addition to reviewing the foundations of Solution-Focused Interviewing and the principles and techniques for establishing and facilitating groups, participants will have opportunities to recognize and practice the skills to build solutions with clients collaboratively with groups and explore a variety of group applications. The course includes significant small group practice opportunities designed to enhance your solution-building skills.
There is an increasing recognition of the value and usefulness of group work for a wide variety of situations and settings, including in schools, health care facilities, agencies, community organizations, correctional facilities, treatment programs, and private settings. A broad range of topics are being addressed effectively in groups, including anger management, conflict resolution, life skills, bullying, academic skills, addiction, anxiety, depression, parenting, healing from abuse, post-traumatic growth, grief, and more.
Especially as demand for services increases while resources continue to be constrained, and people voice growing desires for the meaningful social connections and peer support provided in groups, the role of group work becomes even more important. Using a Solution-Focused approach with groups offers significant benefits because of its focus on client strengths, resources, competencies, and goals instead of problems, deficits, limitations, and disorders.
